Prescott’s Courthouse Square is a gem of a place. It is a rarity in Arizona to find a tree-ringed courthouse with walking paths, fountains and statues, a gazebo and events of all kinds all year long. It’s a gathering place, where the whole town seems to come together in the summer, at Christmas, and anytime anything important happens. Kids still go downtown after school to get ice cream at The Devil’s Pantry and grownups still come out on Saturday night to dance at Matt’s Saloon.
Living in downtown Prescott is like going back in time, as the area is full of Victorian Cottages and Craftsman bungalows, and a person can walk to just about any place they want: restaurants, stores, shops, etc.—everything anyone could need is just a few blocks away.
Historic homes in Prescott abound around the Courthouse Square, but they do come at a price. They can be pretty expensive for a small amount of space. Sometimes, they require extensive renovation and especially work to the foundation.
This is why this little beauty is appealing. Priced at just $185,000, it is a good value for an updated downtown property. It’s been renovated, and for an old place, it has inspected well. The lot is small, but perfect for no maintenance, urban living. The home has dual business and residential zoning and has been a successful vacation rental for the last year.
316 S. Cortez is our first Best of Prescott pick for small, downtown bungalows.
